Do You think our Idealism is a bad thing?

Hey, first off I would like to say thanks everyone for participating. Hear is a question to get your writing muses going. Do you think our personality type or our idealism is a good or bad thing?

I read the description of our personality type and I love what it says, love knowing that this is the type of person I am. Someone who cares so much it hurts sometimes, someone who wants to bring joy to other people, someone with truly good intentions, someone who is their own worse critic, someone who is dedicated to what they value/believe. I read this, and I feel like our personality type is one of the most positive. But there is a But.

I took this silly quiz of facebook (as I am prone to doing) about which leader i am from movies or something like that, i don't remember. But it said I am a reluctant leader, but when forced to learn I'd do the best job in the long term because I neither desire power and have sincire compassion of all. So I'm thinking that INFP's would be good leaders, if we actually lead insted of being 'idealist' and thinking about leading. We are the type of people with enought passion to change the world for the better, but not enough drive. We'd be more likely to escape reality for a while than to fix reality.

There is this song that makes me think of this, Brick by Boring Brick by Paramore

"She lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of the world that she's left behind
It's all about the exposure the lens I told her
The angels were all wrong now
She's ripping wings off of butterflies
keep your feet on the ground
when your head's in the clouds
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Well you built up a world of magic
Because your real life is tragic "

To "Bury The Castle" could mean to give up on your dreams, but I don't think thats the only interpretation. I think it could also mean to get rid of home. Not literal home, but whatever you use to escape reality. Be it books, music, internet, writing, daydreaming, whatever. That way the feeling of homelessness will cause you to seek out a new, real home. I think instead of escaping the world, we should strive to change the world. It's not enough to be the change privately, that doesn't cause the world to change. You have to inspire others.

Are there thing you wish you could change? Together to help each other make personal changes? Do you think its possible to change the world, or is it my idealism talking? What ways do you think the world needs to change?Or do you think our idealism is fine and there is nothing we should do about it?

Hopefully this will get you thinking and give you all something to blog about.

  1. Definitely a good thing! And yes we can change the world! We may just have to hire a spokesperson, that's all :) I think if the world ever settles down into a more peaceful coexistence between its various inhabitants we would be the ideal leaders. But for now, we can be the voice of the future.

  2. " I think if the world ever settles down into a more peaceful coexistence between its various inhabitants we would be the ideal leaders. " true, but it wont. There will always be the Hitlers of teh world who just have bad intentions.

    You can't control other ppl.

we can only be responsible for ourselves and we cannot allow others to put us or others down. Why put up with what we have the power to cast out? Yes, it takes strength, but thats the point.

In my opinion, If you keep waiting on the world to change in your favor, and your favor is different from others sense you are an INFP, change will never happen.

I think it requires more than being the change you wish to see in the world. Thats like a silent protest. You have to let ppl know what you stand for out loud... which is much easer said than done.

But If Not Now, Then When?

    Thanks for the feedback!

  3. If "idealist" didn't stand up for what they believe in, then none of the progress the world has made would have happend. Imagion the world now if there had never been a Gandi or a MLK? If no one was willing to stand up for what they believed in, even if it cost them there lives. (it seems most famious "idealist" have gotten assiniated...) Imagion how the world woud be if everyone lived in fear, and no one was willing to fight for change?

I think we have some negative aspects, but if we learn to work on them we have some of the best positive aspects as well.

I realize this is the opposite of what i said in the Blog. Sometimes i don't know what i think, I change my mind and contridict myself sometimes. Okay, all the time.

  4. Brick by Boring Brick is my anthem at times. I'm a huge Paramore fan. I think being an idealist has its ups and downs. There are always going to be things I wish I could change, I'll never be satisfied.

One bad thing about being an idealist is that my fantasy world will never live up to my reality.

  5. haha, brick by boring brick is my number one on my I-tunes top 25 most played. Its so powerful. i love it. To me, bury the castle means instead of dreaming about changing the world, to actually go change it. Which is what I set out to do. I'm constantly trying to figure out how. But if i can make life better for just one person, I shall not live in vain.
